Our Homemade Pediasure Alternative recipe is great for kids who need to follow a dairy-free and/or gluten-free diet. It’s also packed with fiber which is helpful for kiddos struggling with constipation. This beverage is a good source of iron and a great source of calcium!

This homemade alternative to Pediasure is a great source of protein, fat, and fiber. Combining these nutrients help keep your child full and nourished until the next meal/snack. This recipe features chia seeds, hemp seeds, banana, yogurt, oats, dates and cocoa powder which are a great source of fiber, iron, calcium, potassium, antioxidants and can help improve fatigue, growth and strong bones.

This recipe is highly customizable! See the notes below for all the swaps you can make.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk (or other similar alternative)

  • 1/4 cup Plain Greek Yogurt (If dairy-free, omit and use 1 scoop collagen powder and any additional liquid as needed to blend)

  • 1 tbsp Chia Seeds

  • 2 tbsps Hemp Seeds

  • 1/4 cup Oats

  • 1 tbsp Cocoa Powder

  • 1 Banana (frozen)

  • 1 Medjool Date

A note on ingredient quality: If possible, choose ingredients that are organic and non-GMO. Stores such as Sprouts, Natural Grocers, Whole Foods, and other health food stores can help finding higher-quality ingredients. If access to higher quality ingredients isn't an option for you, choose the best option that is available to you locally.

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Notes

  • Pitted Dates

    • One serving is equal to approximately two to three dates.

  • Gluten-Free

    • Use Gluten-Free oats.

  • Dairy-Free

    • Use coconut yogurt instead.

  • Nut-Free

    • Use coconut or oat milk instead of almond milk.

  • More Flavor

    • Add a pinch of cinnamon.

  • Make it Vegan

    • Use a vegan yogurt.
