This Frozen Fruit Kabob recipe is a fun and easy snack for a hot summer day! Serving fruit frozen, kabob style is the perfect way to mix up snack time while also providing lots of vitamins, water, and fiber for your child.

Grapes are the main character here! They are full of nutrients—especially Vitamin K and B6. Vitamin K assists with blood clotting in our bodies, and Vitamin B6 is great for brain health. Children with autism are often low in B vitamins, so grapes offer a great way to help kids get them in.

This recipe also features watermelon, strawberries, and peaches—which all pack a powerful punch of nutrients as well! They also provide a great source of water and fiber to keep our digestive systems happy and healthy.

This recipe is highly customizable! Try out different types of fruits according to your child’s sensory preferences and nutritional needs.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 Seedless Watermelon (medium, cubed)

  • 2 cups Strawberries (halved)

  • 2 cups Grapes

  • 3 Peach (pits removed, chopped)

  • 12 Barbecue Skewers

A note on ingredient quality: If possible, choose ingredients that are organic and non-GMO. Stores such as Sprouts, Natural Grocers, Whole Foods, and other health food stores can help finding higher-quality ingredients. If access to higher quality ingredients isn't an option for you, choose the best option that is available to you locally.

Directions

  1. Add the fruit pieces to the skewers and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least three hours. Enjoy!

Notes

Whole grapes are a common choking hazard for children under 4, so slicing them in half lengthwise for children ages 3-4 and slicing them into quarters from 1-2 can reduce the risk of a choking episode.  For more information on choking hazards, see the CDC website.
